Abstract

Background: The toddler period is one of the stages of growth and development that requires optimal
nutritional intake to prevent nutritional problems such as stunting. Stunting is the result of long-lasting
growth failure as indicated by a height-for-age z-score of less than -2 SD. The direct factors that cause
stunting malnutrition include inadequate food intake and the presence of infectious diseases. Purpose: The
purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between infectious diseases and the incidence of
stunting in toddlers. Methods: The design used in this research is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative
approach. The selection of research locations was carried out purposively and random sampling was carried
out. The subjects in this study were 97 toddlers with male and female gender, aged 24-59 months who met
the research inclusion criteria. Results: The results of the study showed that 45.3% of toddlers were stunted,
54.7% were not stunted. There is a significant relationship between ARI and stunting in toddlers (p<0.05),
and there is no significant relationship between fever and diarrhea and stunting in toddlers (p>0.05)
Conclusion: Among the three infectious diseases diarrhea fever and ARI is only ARI which is significantly
related to the incidence of stunting in toddlers
